Junior Steele Escobedo entered the tournament ranked fourth at 141 pounds and concluded his campaign with All-American honors and a seventh place finish at Nationals. He began the tournament with a bye then won via tech fall over Wardell Morgan of Lindenwood-Belleville in the second round to set up a meeting with 12th-ranked Tyler Hinton of Ottawa (Kan.) Hinton pinned Escobedo in 6:07 and later advanced to the finals where he claimed a second place finish. Not to be deterred Escobedo came out on day two and went 2-1 with decision wins over Joshua Lopez and #14 Sonny Gulesian in the placing match to finish seventh overall and earn All-American status for the second consecutive season. Escobedo finished the year with a 22-12 record.
