The award is given to individuals who has legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 grade point average in the classroom. Recipients must have reached at least sophomore athletic and academic standing, and have completed at least one full year at his or her institution, while playing in at least fifty percent of his or her team's games. Maxwell is a Business Management major who currently has a 3.38 grade point average. His play on the field has been stellar in 2017, taking a major leap after a solid freshman campaign. He has appeared and started in 49 of Menlo's 51 games, is second on the team with a .320 batting average, and leads the GSAC with 17 doubles. He has also added a triple, 5 home runs, 43 runs batted in, and scored 32 times. A performer in the clutch as well as anybody, Maxwell is hitting a gaudy .538 with runners in scoring position, easily the best mark among Oaks hitters.
