Senior Chrisit Haia Finished With 10 Kills

SAN RAFAEL, CA – The Menlo College women’s volleyball team dropped a thrilling five game match to Dominican University of California. The Oaks fell to the Penguins with scores of 25-30, 30-20, 18-30, 30-27, 7-15 at the Conlan Center.

Sophomore Deborah Bekowies had career-high 29 kills and two blocks. Freshman setter LaRisa Parker added 46 assists and ten digs. Sophomore Sarah Poole finished with a .429 hitting percentage with 8 kills and two blocks.

The Penguins had five players in double digits in kills with Gabby Pecora registering a game-high 18 kills and 22 digs. Bridget Gengler added seven blocks.

After dropping game one, Menlo College rebounded in the second game by an eight-point lead to finish 30-20. The Penguins took a 2-1 lead with a 30-18 win in game three. The Oaks won a hard fought game four 30-27 to force a fifth game. Dominican’s offense proved to be too much for the young Oaks as the Penguins clinched the match with a 15-7 game five victory.

Menlo College (6-8, 5-2 Cal Pac) travels to Arizona Monday to take on Embry-Riddle University and College of the Southwest. The Oaks lost a five-game heartbreaker on September 21 at Haynes-Prim Pavilion to Embry-Riddle. First serve is at 7 p.m.
