HAYWARD, CA – Senior guard Frances Sorenson scored a career-high 13 points to lead the No. 3 seeded Lady Oaks to a 52-48 victory over No. 6 seeded Dominican University tonight in the quarterfinals of the California Pacific Conference Tournament. Menlo improved to 14-12 while Dominican ends their season with a 10-21 overall record.
The match-up started off even, with four tied scores. The Lady Oaks closed in on a lay-up by junior Kelci Fushikoshi as the Penguins took a 21-20 into the locker room.
Menlo permanently pulled away at the 8-minute mark when senior Sonet Yee connected on a three-pointer from the top of the arc, giving the Lady Oaks their largest lead of the night 38-31.
Yee finished with 11 points while dishing out six assists. Junior college transfer Leah Manning pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
In her final game as a Penguin, Olivia Williams nabbed her first double-double of the season (11 points, 14 rebounds). Freshman Raquel Gomes finished with a game-high 13 points.
The Lady Oaks will face No. 2 seed Cal State East Bay in the semi-finals. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at CSU East Bay’s Pioneer Gym.
