Jamie Pauley Hit Her Second Homerun Of The Year

ATHERTON, CA - Sophomore Jamie Pauley’s two-run homerun led the Lady Oaks softball team to a 4-3 victory this afternoon's opening game of the doubleheader against NCAA Division III Lewis & Clark College. Junior Pamela Marchese pitched a shutout in the second game with a 3-0 victory. The Lady Oaks raised their record to 11-8 as the Pioneers dropped to 1-16 on the year.

In game one, Lewis & Clark scored two runs in the second inning off two hits and one error.

In the bottom of the second, Pauley tied the game with her two-run homerun on her first pitch after freshman Kelsey Wood reached on a single up the middle.

The Lady Oaks added two more runs in the third off singles by junior Susanne Thomsen and Wood.

In the nightcap, freshman Alicia Pratt singled through the right side to score Marchese to give the Lady Oaks a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Menlo added another run in the third off three hits. Pacchetti doubled to deep right center field and then crossed home plate when Thomsen reached first on an error by the Pioneers.

Pauley opened the fifth inning with a single up the middle and then advanced to second when Pioneer’s second baseman bobbled the ball on junior Amber Fruiht’s hit. Junior Ku'ulei Padeken singled to second base to score Pauley.

The Lady Oaks out-hit the Pioneers in both games (7-6, 9-4).

Marchese (14 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 1 SO) earned two wins after pitching two complete games.

Menlo heads to Southern California this week to compete against University of La Verne, Cal Lutheran University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Lady Oaks open with La Vern on Tuesday at noon in La Verne, California.
