Bristol, TN:
The 2012 Women's Wrestling College Nationals have come and gone, and four Lady Oaks can now call themselves All-Americans thanks to their impressive showings. Kalin Knight-Alverez, Brazel Marquez, Michelle Jimenez, and Sherylyn Sabado all finished in the top eight of their respective weight classes to take home the prestigious title of All-American. As a team Menlo finished a respective 8th out of 15th to cap off the 2011-12 year.
"I am happy with the way our team performed this weekend," commented Oaks Head Coach Marcie Van Dusen. "Nationals showed us that we have a young team, but we are very strong and I am confident that we will continue to win and continue to grow."
Kalin Knight-Alverez earned top billing amongst all Oaks with a third place finish in the 116lb. weight class. The freshman from Vista, CA took out King College's Samantha Klingel in the third place match to come away with the outstanding finish.
"Kalin is a freshman that came in ready to work from the get go," claimed Van Dusen. "She really went above and beyond this year and her amazing work ethic and determination will no doubt make her an unbelievable wrestler for the next three years."
Aside from Knight-Alverez, sophomore Michelle Jimenez earned the next highest spot, coming in with a fifth place finish in the vaunted 109lb. weight class. Brazel Marquez was able to end her freshman season on a high note with a 6th place finish in the 130lb. weight class and junior Sherylyn Sabado took home an 8th place mark in the 109lb. weight class.
The Lady Oaks were also able to take home another prominent honor. Menlo was one of just four teams in the country to win a team scholar award.
