SAN DIEGO – A day after the Menlo College men’s soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit with three goals in the final 11 minutes, the Oaks fell behind Point Loma Nazarene, 2-0, and mustered just one score in a 4-1 loss Saturday.
The Sea Lions (3-0) led 2-0 on goals by Tony Mercuriali and Brian Thames 28 minutes into the match before Oaks senior forward Armando San Vincente halved the Point Loma lead with a 20-yard strike at the 38-minute, 48-second mark.
On Friday, Menlo (3-1) trailed San Diego Christian 2-0 before rallying for a victory. There was no comeback Saturday though as Greg Stoaks and Thames scored in the 64th and 69th minutes, respectively, to put the match away.
Point Loma outshot Menlo 35-9 and 13 saves by Oaks goalkeeper Pat Conte kept the game within reach until late for the visitors.
Menlo returns to action Sept. 21 when the Oaks visit Division I Sacramento State.
