ANGWIN – Freshman Craig Ryan’s time of 34 minutes, 25 seconds paced a pack of Menlo runners while senior Becky Tavera’s 26:36 led the Oak women Friday at the California Pacific Conference Cross Country Championships.

Ryan finished the eight-kilometer course in 18th place. Senior Joe Garcia (34:26) was immediately behind him in 19th, followed by sophomore John Hayworth (34:50) in 20th and junior Pablo Sanchez (34:58) in 21st. Freshman Andrew Cunha (36:05) took 23rd while junior Anthony Cunha (39:05) was 27th.

The Oaks’ 106 team points slotted them in fourth place. Holy Names captured the title with 37 points and the Hawks’ William Ngetich won the individual title, navigating the course in 27:20.

Following Tavera’s 22nd-place showing over the five-kilometer course was freshman Ashlee Evans-Smith (29:35) in 29th, freshman J’aime Sage (27:57) in 30th and junior Sabrina Lancelloti (28:05) in 31st. Annette Aloiau (30:01) was 37th for the Oaks, who collected 125 points to finish in fifth.

Cal State East Bay won the women’s title with 39 points while Pacific Union’s Jillian Rothgeb (20:02) won the individual title.

Menlo's finishes ensured the Oak men an overall second place conference finish while the women completed the regular season in third.

Both teams will complete the 2005 season at the NAIA Region II Championships, hosted by Fresno Pacific Sat., Nov. 5.
