ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – A poor shooting night and trouble on the boards was too much for Menlo College to overcome in a 79-52 loss to San Francisco State at the Ron Logsdon Classic on Friday night.

The Oaks shot 31.3 percent from the field – 25.7 percent from inside the arc – and were outrebounded 20-6 on the offensive glass in the season-opening loss. The Gators outscored Menlo 21-2 in second chance points on the night.

Julian Harris’ jumper gave the Oaks their only lead of the game against San Francisco State, an NCAA Div. II program. Menlo was within striking distance through the first half, trailing 37-25 at the break, but watched the Gators slowly pull away over the first 10 minutes of the second half. Harris made a three-pointer to begin the second half to pull the Oaks within nine points, but that was as close as the score would get.

Senior forward Kyle Adams led Menlo with 12 points, making all eight of his free throw attempts, while junior forward Craig Haberlein had eight points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Chris Cobb finished with nine points, six assists and four steals.

Brad Visman had 13 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Gators while Derek Fletcher and Robert Hayes had 13 and 12 points, respectively. San Francisco State outrebounded the Oaks 47-30.

Menlo, 0-1, plays tournament host Sonoma State at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Seawolves dropped their opener against Northwest Nazarene 68-63 on Friday. San Francisco State is 2-0.
