ROCKLIN, Calif. - Three-point shooting took Menlo College to the brink of another big California Pacific Conference victory, but the number three had no other positive connotations as the Oaks dropped their third consecutive overtime game in triple overtime, 98-92, at William Jessup on Saturday night in men's basketball.

Menlo made 9-of-23 3-pointers to push the first-place Warriors to the very end, but were left settling for a moral victory against a team that won comfortably inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion in the teams' first meeting of the season last month. The Oaks lost each of their previous two games at second-place Dominican and in friendly confines to Pacific Union in one overtime.

The Oaks couldn't match William Jessup's hot shooting in their December loss, but hung with the Warriors in large part due to their own touch from the outside. Menlo was 4-for-10 from 3-point range in the opening half, but still trailed 38-34 at halftime. The Oaks made another five 3-pointers after the break - compared to none for William Jessup - to force the extra periods.

Menlo had no answer for the Warriors Lucas Birchard, who finished with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Zach Sowers scored 22 points to go with eight rebounds while Jason Washington had 21 points.

In a more balanced scoring effort, the Oaks were led by Julian Harris' 23 points of 5-of-9 shooting from deep. Brandon Cochran scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Andrew Young scored 12, and Chris Cobb and Nick McCullar scored 10 apiece. McCullar made all four of his field goal attempts and finished with six rebounds.

the game proved to be a battle of attrition in the end. Menlo's Cobb, Cochran, Tim Kees and Ari Goldman all fouled out of the game, as did William Jessup's Washington and Kadeem Kirsten. The Warriors made 83.3 percent of their free throw attempts, outscoring Menlo by 12 at the line.

The Oaks fall to 3-6 in the Cal Pac and 5-13 overall heading into a Thursday matchup at 8 p.m. versus Holy Names. William Jessup is 8-1 in conference and 8-11 overall.
