Men's Basketball - Mon, Feb 9, 2009
ANGWIN, Calif. - Another hot-shooting start by an opponent was too much for Menlo College to overcome despite a solid second half in a 67-53 loss at Pacific Union on Saturday night in California Pacific Conference men's basketball.
The Oaks trailed 32-19 at halftime after the Pioneers made 59.1 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening half. Pacific Union sunk 4-of-7 3-pointers before the break and shot 60 percent from deep for the game.
Menlo's offense found some rhythm in the second half, but couldn't make up any ground thanks to Pacific Union's efficient offense. Both teams made a dozen field goals after the break, but the Oaks needed 11 more attempts to do so.
Tim Kees had a big night for the Oaks, leading the team with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Brandon Cochran came through with 14 points, eight rebounds and Julian Harris chipped in 10 points. Chris Cobb made a pair of 3-pointers for Menlo.
Aren Rennacker and Brandon Monty paced the Pioneers with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Manny Gonzales and Kameron Barnes contributed six points apiece.
Menlo drops to 3-9 in conference and 5-16 overall. The Oaks host Cal Maritime on Thursday at 8 p.m. inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion. Pacific Union is 3-10 in the Cal Pac and 5-15 overall.
