Menlo vs. Fresno Pacific - Game StatsMenlo vs. Southern Oregon - Game StatsMenlo Season StatsFRESNO, Calif. - The Menlo College volleyball squad closed out its opening weekend of the season with a pair of losses to highly touted foes on the final day of the Sunbird Invitational on the campus of Fresno Pacific University on Saturday afternoon.
The Oaks lost their first game of the day to No. 1 Fresno Pacific, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14, before dropping their tournament finale to No. 26 Southern Oregon, 24-26, 25-16, 26-24, 25-22. Menlo is now 0-4 after dropping all of its contests at what could be best described as a loaded tournament.
In their first game of the day the Oaks were paced by Deborah Bekowies' nine kills while Kelsey Bailey added seven. Sarah Poole tallied six kills and three blocks, Raquel Vilalobos had 13 assists, Stephanie Williamson totaled 10 assists and Shelby Goldman had 11 digs.
Bekowies led the way against Southern Oregon as well, finishing with 15 kills. Katie Pendley added 11 kills, Poole had eight kills, Vilalobos and Williamson tallied 22 assists apiece, and Goldman finished with 15 digs.
Menlo will head to Southern California in two weekends in search of its first victory of the season and play three games in as many days. The Oaks will not play again until Sept. 11 at Occidental, then take on La Sierra on back-to-back days.
