Menlo vs. Dominican - Game Stats

ATHERTON, Calif. - As each game reached its tipping point, Menlo College saw it tip in the wrong direction in a competitive 25-20, 25-21, 25-21, loss to Dominican on Tuesday night in the Oaks home opener at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

Menlo was neck-and-neck with the Penguins throughout the night, but lost the final two games after holding late leads. In game two, the Oaks watched Dominican score seven of the last eight points and 11-of-12 to end the third game and the match. Menlo appeared set to send the match to a fourth game when it led 20-14, but the Penguins scored nine straight to take control.

Middle blocker Sarah Poole had seven kills and five blocks for the Oaks, who swept Dominican last season in the Penguins final year as a member of the California Pacific Conference before they moved to the NCAA Div. II level and the PacWest Conference. Katie Pendley racked up a team-high eight kills, Kelsey Bailey had seven kills and nine digs, and Deborah Bekowies had six kills. Stephanie Williamson finished the match with 18 assists.

Gabby Pecora led everyone with 12 kills for Dominican while Brooke Swingle made 27 assists.

Menlo falls to 3-5 after seeing its three-game winning streak snapped. The Oaks next competitive match - after Friday night's match versus the alumni - is next Tuesday versus another NCAA Div. II in Academy of Art at 7 p.m. Dominican is 3-8 overall.
