Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week Release
ATHERTON, Calif. - A pair of Menlo College's gridiron stars achieved Honorable Mention Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week status when the honors were announced on Tuesday. Junior linebacker Shawn Winters and freshman wide receiver Kenny Cavness earned mention for the NWC's defensive and offensive awards, respectively, due to their efforts last weekend.
Against NCAA Div. II Humboldt State, Winters finished with five tackles, including three for a loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a sack. Cavness caught four passes for 54 yards and an 11-yard touchdown on 4th-and-goal in the third quarter that kept the Oaks in the game.
Winters leads the team with five and half tackles behind the line of scrimmage and has 13 tackles overall. Cavness is the team leader in receptions (13) and receiving yards (130).
Menlo, 0-3, looks for its first win of the season at Whittier (1-0) on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Oaks defeated Whittier 38-20 for their first win last season and lead the all-time series 14-4.
