Menlo at Bethany - Game Stats Menlo Season Stats SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Menlo College went on the road and took full advantage of its few chances to knock off Bethany 2-1 thanks to a penalty kick in the final minutes of a California Pacific Conference match on Friday afternoon.
Senior defender Dominic Mitchell netted the winner with just over five minutes left in the second half to break a deadlock. Menlo has now won two straight to improve to 2-1 in the Cal Pac and 2-7 overall. It hosts Pacific Union (1-0-1, 1-1-1) on Friday at 3 p.m. in another Cal Pac matchup after the game was moved up one day from its original date. Bethany is 1-2 in conference and 2-4 overall.
After senior forward Said Karimzad was fouled in the penalty box, Mitchell stepped up to calmly put the winner home. Senior forward Cesar Garcia also found the back of the net for the Oaks, drawing the Oaks level late in the first half off a Mitchell assist. Menlo managed seven shots in the match - six on target - while Bethany fired off 17. Goalkeeper Brian Periman made seven stops between the posts for the Oaks.
Joel Pelton scored the Bruins goal in the opening half.
