ATHERTON, Calif. - Menlo College allowed a goal within the first four minutes of the start of each half of a 4-0 California Pacific Conference loss to Holy Names at Wunderlich Field on Wednesday afternoon. The slow starts doomed the Oaks chances in a match that was competitive entering the second half.
It was a through ball from Brittanie Perez to Monique Reyes that the latter poked home for the opening goal in the fourth minute of the match. Despite the setback, Menlo settled itself and played the rest of the half even with the second-place Hawks, just missing on a chance to equalize when Kellie Detweiler's cross to Amanda Torres was just nicked by Holy Names goalkeeper Sabel Maguire.

Unfortunately for Menlo, Holy Names struck even quicker to begin the second half. Reyes scored another one-on-one goal in the 47th minute that gave the Hawks a 2-0 advantage they had no trouble holding on to. Perez added Holy Names' third in the 66th minute before Reyes completed a hat trick in the 89th.

Paige Cruz did her best to keep Menlo in the match, making 10 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. The senior made a number of diving and one-on-one stops. Amanda Torres did most of the Oaks attacking of the goal, finishing with six shots and four shots on goal.

Menlo is now 2-3-1 in the Cal Pac and 4-9-1 overall. The Oaks play at Mills at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Holy Names improves to 5-1 in conference play and 6-8 overall.
