ANGWIN, Calif. - Menlo College got a bit of a scare in the first two games of the night before settling down and putting Pacific Union away 28-26, 25-23, 25-15 in a California Pacific Conference victory on Saturday night.
With the win the Oaks clinched at least a share of the Cal Pac regular season title. Menlo improved to 10-0 in conference and 14-9 overall heading into the final week of the conference season. A victory over second-place William Jessup (8-2, 13-7) at home on Friday night or the following day at Simpson (4-6, 4-14) will earn the Oaks their second consecutive Cal Pac title, as well as the No. 1 seed and a bye into the championship match of the inaugural Cal Pac Tournament next week. The top seed will host the Cal Pac Tournament championship match with the winner earning automatic qualification into the NAIA Championships.

While Menlo won all three sets on Saturday, it didn't come as easy as in a 25-10, 25-12, 25-11 victory over the Pioneers in the teams first meeting of the season. Pacific Union pushed the Oaks to the brink in each of the first two games, but couldn't steal either.

Deborah Bekowies was unstoppable for Menlo, finishing with 14 kills in 19 chances and a .632 hitting percentage. Sarah Poole added eight kills and four blocks, Stephenie Monderine had seven kills, Katie Pendley six, and Kelsey Bailey five. Stephanie Williamson had 37 assists to move within six of second place on the Oaks career list with 979. Williamson needs just 44 more to take over sole possession of the record.

Heather Jacobson led the Pioneers with 10 kills while Tiffany Jacobsen totaled 18 assists. Pacific Union is 3-7 in the Cal Pac and 3-12 overall.
