ANGWIN, Calif. - Menlo College made it into the final 10 minutes of regular time even with second-place Pacific Union before allowing a pair of late goals in a 2-0 California Pacific Conference loss on Wednesday afternoon.
The Oaks defense proved tough to break down all day for Pacific Union, who scored four times in forty minutes in winning the teams first meeting of the season 4-1 on Oct. 9. This time it took until the 82nd minute for the Pioneers to get their breakthrough.
Jonathan Osorio scored from a Brandon Voigt assist in the final second of the 82nd minute before Edrie Mauries put the match away with an 85th-minute goal off a dual assist from Jonathan Groschel and Waqih Goda.
Menlo finished with eight shots in the match, firing six on target. Freshman forward Carlos Ramirez put three shots on goal while five others also took aim at the net. Pat Conte made 11 saves in goal for the Oaks.
Menlo is now 5-5 in the Cal Pac and 5-11 overall heading into its Senior Day match versus William Jessup (6-3-1, 7-7-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. Pacific Union is 8-1-1 in conference and 8-2-1 overall, just three points back of undefeated Holy Names.
