ATHERTON, Calif. - Room for error? Not when a team is chasing perfection. Menlo College took full advantage of its first chance to clinch the California Pacific Conference regular season and a bye into the Cal Pac Tournament championship match while remaining undefeated in conference play with a 25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17 victory over visiting William Jessup inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion on Friday night.

Entering the evening with a two-match lead atop the Cal Pac standings with as many matches to play, Menlo ran its conference unbeaten streak to 25 and guaranteed itself one more match inside the friendly confines of Haynes-Prim Pavilion - the most important of the season. The Oaks will host the conference title game next Saturday night with an automatic berth in the NAIA Championship on the line. Menlo improved to 11-0 in the Cal Pac and 15-9 overall on Friday while William Jessup fell to 8-3 and 14-8. The Oaks close out their regular season at Simpson on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Despite arriving just minutes before the scheduled start, the visiting Warriors gave Menlo a challenge befitting a team tied for second place in the Cal Pac standings. The first game was a back-and-forth affair that was tied at 20 before the Oaks got hot late. Stephanie Williamson gave Menlo the lead for good with a kill before Kelsey Bailey spiked home the next two points. Williamson and Sarah Poole teamed on a block for a 24-20 advantage and the game ended two games later on a William Jessup miscue.

Menlo was in a similar situation in a tight game two, leading 24-21 with the game on there for the taking. Unfortunately for the Oaks, it was the Warriors who took it right away with five straight points following a Poole block.

If Menlo was taken aback it didn't show. The Oaks took control midway through game three and wrested hold of the match along with it. Katie Pendley and Deborah Bekowies traded kills for four consecutive points, and Bailey added another for a 20-14 advantage that Menlo wouldn't let go. Poole brought home the decisive game with back-to-back kills that ended it.

The final game of the night followed the theme of its predecessor. With the score knotted at 14, Pendley gave the Oaks the lead for good with a kill then Mia Ortiz added a service ace. Bekowies came through with three kills from that point before Shelby Goldman earned two of the final three points of the match with service aces.

Menlo received a number of standout performances from its senior class, led by Katie Pendley's 18 kills. Poole tallied 15 kills and four blocks while Bekowies added 13 kills and five blocks. The Oaks impressive numbers at the net were thanks in large part to Stephanie Williamson's 43 assists, though the setter added three kills and six blocks of her own. Williamson tied the school's career record for assists with 1,022 in just her second season as an Oak.

Bailey was solid all around with nine kills and 14 digs. Ortiz finished with 19 digs and three aces with Goldman totaling 18 digs and three aces.
