ATHERTON, Calif. - Senior forward Cesar Garcia scored a plucky second-half goal as Menlo College earned a 1-0 California Pacific Conference victory over William Jessup on Senior Day at Wunderlich Field Saturday afternoon.

Though the Oaks enjoyed more chances and most of the meaningful possession, it wasn't until the 54th minute that it paid off. Garcia possessed the ball straight from goal just outside the penalty area when he dribbled past a pair of William Jessup defenders and forced his way through two more for a one-on-one shot he calmly put past goalkeeper Jeff Dunn.

From there Menlo only had to defend, though seniors Said Karimzad and Michael Pessah did their best to put the match away with a second that never materialized. The Oaks enjoyed a 22-16 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Pat Conte saved the only two shots his way and left his line to push away a last-second free kick that came dangerously close to sending the match to extra time.

The back line of Dominic Mitchell, Bernardo Horne, Brian Periman and Sasa Maksimovic stood out for Menlo, helping Conte keep a clean sheet against a William Jessup side that had scored in all 10 Cal Pac matches entering play Saturday.

Menlo improves to 6-5 in the Cal Pac and 6-11 overall with its final match on Tuesday at 3 p.m. versus Simpson. William Jessup is now 6-4-1 in conference and 7-8-1 overall.
