SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Despite a strong showing, Menlo College crashed out in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round for the second consecutive season when it fell 25-19, 34-32, 25-19 at No. 15 Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday afternoon.

The Oaks played Point Loma tight in the first game of the day and should have evened the score at one game apiece, but faltered on game point as the Sea Lions went extra time to steal a 34-32 victory. From there it was only a matter of time - which Point Loma used little of - before Menlo's season ran out of steam.

The usual suspects had strong showings for the Oaks as the First Team All-Cal Pac trio of seniors Deborah Bekowies, Sarah Poole and Stephanie Williamson did its best to try to send Menlo to the NAIA National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa. Poole killed 12 of 25 attempts for a .480 hitting percentage with two blocks, Williamson had 34 assists and 10 digs, and Bekowies had nine kills for a .318 percentage. Fellow seniors Katie Pendley and Kelsey Bailey totaled 11 kills and 13 digs, respectively, to close out their Menlo careers.

Menlo finishes its season 17-10 overall after going 12-0 for its second successive perfect Cal Pac season. The Oaks won the first ever Cal Pac Tournament and extended their conference unbeaten streak to 27 matches. Meanwhile, Bekowies, Poole, and Williamson each etched their named into the Menlo record book and are likely to earn further accolades as the season comes to a close.
