PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Menlo College just missed starting the Mile High Duals off on the right foot, losing a thriller to host and 15th-ranked Embry-Riddle before dropping one-sided decisions to No. 3 Great Falls and NCAA Div. II Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday.

The Oaks led going into the final match of its dual with Embry-Riddle only to lose 24-21. Menlo followed with losses of 35-5 to CSU-Pueblo and 34-9 to Great Falls. The Oaks now hold a 3-8 dual record this season.

While Menlo struggled as a team against its top-flight opponents, there were obvious bright spots for the Oaks. Junior 141-pounder Christian Martinez and junior 125-pounder Jason Moorehouse each finished the duals unblemished, winning three matches apiece. Martinez and Moorehouse each outpointed their opponents to take a trio of decisions.

Martinez started with a 7-3 victory over Embry-Riddle's Ryan Luu before outlasting CSU-Pueblo's Nick Stahler 9-7 and Jeff Trafelet of Great Falls, 5-3. Each of Martinez' decisions started a dual, giving the Oaks the lead whether it lasted or not.

Moorehouse won a 3-2 decision over John Garza to give Menlo a 21-18 lead entering the final match against Embry-Riddle. Against CSU-Pueblo, Moorehouse took another one-point decision, this time a 10-9 victory over Kenny Porter and against Great Falls it was a 6-3 final over Akmal Adilov.

Cody Gibson, Josh Emmett, Adrian Gonzales, Sean Weeks, and Hanna Malak each won once for the Oaks during the duals.
