In addition to Martinez' first-rate showing, 125-pounder Jason Moorhouse placed third, Josh Emmett was fourth at 157 pounds, and Adrian Gonzales was fifth at 165.

Martinez defeated Embry-Riddle's Ryan Luu by a 5-2 decision to begin the day, then took care of Simon Fraser's Raj Virdi with a 10-2 major decision. In the semifinals, Martinez snuck past Great Falls' Jason Costello 5-4 before he won the championship match by forfeit.

Moorhouse took third place by winning three straight matches after a day-opening loss to Western State's Kyle O'Brien. An 8-6 decision over Embry-Riddle's John Garza was followed by a 10-5 decision over Great Falls' Brian Borst and a 4-3 decision over Akmal Adilov, also of Great Falls.

Emmett and Gonzales each finished the day with a 3-2 record to earn their places. Cody Gibson at 149 pounds and Sean Weeks at 165 each won one match in the tournament.

Menlo returns to action on Sunday when it hosts a trio of duals. The Oaks will take on NCAA Div. I opponents Cal State Bakersfield at 11 a.m. and UC Davis at 12:30 p.m., and wrap up the day against NAIA No. 5 Southern Oregon at 2 p.m. Menlo is 3-8 on the season.
