ATHERTON, Calif. - After a slow start Menlo College's offense started keeping up with its defense in a 64-25 demolition of Bethany on Saturday night in California Pacific Conference play inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

It was only a matter of time before the Oaks pulled away considering they wouldn't let the Bruins get away with much of anything with the ball. Menlo used a 23-2 stretch over the final 12-plus minutes of the opening half to turn a one-point margin into a 30-8 halftime advantage. The first nine points after the break were also scored by the Oaks as they extended the run to 32-2 before it mercifully came to a close just over four minutes into the second half.

Kelli Brull scored off a Senoj Jones assist to put Menlo in front 26-8 with two minutes, 43 seconds left in the opening half. Brull's inside basket turned out to give the Oaks enough points for the victory with more than half the game remaining. The senior forward was a big reason Menlo eased into the locker room in firm control as she tallied 12 points and five steals in the opening 20 minutes.

Menlo twice led by 43 points, first at 54-11 and then at 58-15. Bethany didn't crack double figures until more than four minutes into the second half and couldn't reach 20 points until three minutes, eight seconds remained. The Oaks took full advantage of the blowout, getting all 13 players in uniform into the action for at least six minutes of floor time.

The Oaks first half dominance centered around Brull and Katelyn Guild, a pair of senior forwards. Guild complemented Brull with eight rebounds and four points as the duo combined for a first half double-double. Guild ended the game with a double-double of her own, scoring 13 points with 11 rebounds. Brull didn't score after halftime, but finished with seven rebounds and two blocks.

Stephanie Truong added nine points and five rebounds while Brittany Taylor and Gianna Covarelli chipped in eight points apiece. Menlo cleaned up on the glass, grabbing 47 rebounds to Bethany's 30, while also forcing 25 turnovers.

Bethany was held to 20 percent shooting from the field and 16.7 percent from deep. Menlo's offense may not have been as crisp as it was two days earlier in a 77-59 victory over Cal Maritime - undefeated in Cal Pac play at the time - but it didn't have to be.

Janessa McGirt led Bethany with five points while six other Bruins scored between two and four. Stephanie Nelson grabbed a team-high nine boards while Christie O'Daniels had six rebounds and three assists.

Menlo improves to 5-4 in the Cal Pac and 10-12 overall. The Oaks receive their lone conference bye on Thursday before returning to action on Saturday at 6:30 at Pacific Union (1-7, 4-14). Bethany is 0-9 in conference and 2-19 overall.
