ATHERTON, Calif. - A dozen Menlo College players scored as it posted an impressive California Pacific Conference victory, 77-46, over Pacific Union on Saturday night.
All 14 Oaks in uniform saw action in a game that was over by halftime with Menlo leading 37-18. The margin grew quickly after halftime before Menlo coasted down the stretch for its third consecutive blowout win. Since losing a close contest to conference leader Holy Names, the Oaks have won a trio of games by an average of 29.3 points.
Menlo made half its shots (25-50) on the night, including 5-of-9 from the outside. The Oaks also shot an impressive 22-for-27 from the free throw line. Pacific Union was limited to making 35.8 percent of its shots from the field and 2-of-10 3-pointers. Menlo also grabbed 40 rebounds to the Pioneers 25.
Gianna Covarelli came off the bench to lead the Oaks offense, scoring 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field in just 16 minutes of action. Katelyn Guild scored 10 points with six rebounds in 17 minutes as Menlo went to the bench early and often. Stephanie Truong added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists while Senoj Jones chipped in nine points. Bianca Madrid tallied eight points and Bryanna Batts six.
Carla Bartlett was the only Pioneer to reach double digits, scoring 13 points.
Menlo is now 6-4 in the Cal Pac and 11-12 overall. The Oaks host William Jessup (6-4, 10-16) at 6 p.m. on Thursday for Senior Night. Pacific Union is 1-9 in conference and 4-17 overall.
