OKLAHOMA CITY - Six Menlo College grapplers will try to live up to the programs lofty standards as the NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships get under way on Thursday afternoon inside Oklahoma City University's Abe Lemons Arena.

Seniors Mike Cavanaugh, Josh Emmett, and Cody Gibson; juniors Adrian Gonzales and Jason Moorhouse; and sophomore Christian Martinez will try to wrap up the Oaks transitional season on a high note. Menlo is in its first season under interim head coach Joey Martinez, and has had to overcome the loss of five All-Americans and two national champions whose eligibility ran out last season.

Martinez placed seventh at 141 pounds - his current weight class - to earn Honorable Mention NAIA All-American status at last year's tournament. He placed third two weekends ago at the NAIA West National Qualifier in Havre, Mont. Moorhouse (125) also placed third at the regional event and is the Oaks highest rated wrestler in the final NAIA individual ratings, where he is ranked eighth.

Emmett (157) and Cavanaugh (174) each placed fourth at the national qualifier while Gonzales (165) was fifth and Gibson (149) sixth. Menlo placed fourth out of seven teams, finishing ahead of three nationally-ranked teams: No. 11 Simon Fraser, No. 16 Montana State-Northern, and No. 18 Embry-Riddle.
