ATHERTON, Calif. - Menlo College's bats were on fire and there was little St. Joseph's could do to stop the burning as the Oaks swept a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon by scores of 11-0 and 21-4 at Cartan Field.

The Oaks have now scored 65 runs in their last four contests, pushing their record three games above .500 for the first time all season to 14-11. Menlo hosts St. Joseph's (3-9) for another doubleheader on Friday at 12 p.m.

In the opener, Menlo struck in the first inning and never looked back. All of the Oaks scoring after the three runs in the first inning were gloss as freshman Derek Martinez pitched seven scoreless innings to earn the victory. Martinez allowed five hits and struck out eight without a walk while Nick Vandever pitched two perfect innings and Travis Anders shut the door in the ninth.

Joel Hull led off the bottom of the first with a double which was followed by a C.J. Dailey triple and a Shane Parsons double. Just like that it was 2-0 and Martinez had all the run support he would need.

The Oaks led 4-0 through two innings and added two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth.

Hull led Menlo's offensive by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and three RBI's. Parsons doubled, homered, and drove in three while Dailey had a double to go along with his triple and drove in a pair. Michael Brandi finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run, Chris Mazza singled and drove one in, Brad Binder and Ty Finley singled, and Kyle Wilkerson plated one run.

Menlo started the second game slowly, but used an enormous fifth inning to put the game to bed as the margin got out of hand.

The Oaks led 2-0 entering the home half of the fifth thanks to back-to-back one-run innings. Menlo then pushed across 12 runs on 11 hits to take a commanding lead. Three runs in the sixth gave the Oaks a 17-1 advantage before one run in the eighth and three in the ninth provided the final margin.

Parsons went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI's while Brandi was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Wilkerson had two hits and four RBI's with Brad Binder adding two hits and two RBI's. Mazza, Sam Dodge, and Jonathan Ochoa each had two hits and one RBI. Hull, Dailey, Finley, Victory Belz, Aaron Lopez, and Taylor Cohn each reached on a base hit.

Freshman Sean Sweeney was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run - and four total - on four hits in seven innings. Chris Cleary struck out three and didn't allow a run over the final two innings.
