AKRON, Ohio - Katherine Fulp-Allen's quest to repeat as World University champion was thwarted when she suffered an injury in her third match at the Asics University National Championships on Saturday and was left unable to compete. Fulp-Allen won the event in 2008 to qualify for the World University Championships, where she won a gold medal in the 51 KG weight class in Thessaloniki, Greece.

On Saturday, Fulp-Allen won a 4-0, 5-0 decision over Raquel Woodruff to open the competition before winning in even more impressive fashion against Oklahoma City University's Logan Rich, 7-0, 8-0. In her third match, Fulp-Allen suffered an injury while taking on Cumberland's Gabriel Henry. She was forced to injury default and end her participation in the event.

It is unlikely that Fulp-Allen will be able to participate at the U.S. Open in Cleveland in two weeks. Her last chance to earn a competitive spot on a national team will come June 11-12 at the 2010 World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Fulp-Allen is currently a member of the 2010 U.S. National Team along with her sister, Sara, a Menlo graduate.
