Menlo finished the 2009 season 4-6 overall - 3-3 and in third place in the NWC - with only Whittier not making a repeat appearance on the 2010 slate. Last season the Oaks enjoyed their best NWC record and placement standings in four seasons in the conference. In his first season as the head coach, long-time assistant Fred Guidici led Menlo to its best overall record since 2006 and its best record away from home (3-2) since 2003.
After opening the season on Sept. 4 at Occidental, the Oaks play their home opener on Sept. 11 against Chapman. Menlo host Whitworth on Oct. 2, Pacific Lutheran on Oct. 16, Puget Sound on Nov. 6, and Pacific on Nov. 13 in its regular season finale. Pacific is fielding a football team for the first time since it dropped the sport following the 1991 season.
Menlo's 2010 opponents posted a combined 48-40 record last season, led by Linfield's 12-1 finish that saw the NWC champions reach the NCAA Div. III quarterfinals and finish the season ranked No. 3 in both national polls. Linfield's season ended with a 27-17 loss at eventual national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater. Willamette (8-2 in 2009) and Occidental (7-2) each spent time in the Top 25 a season ago and are primed for big things in 2010.
