ATHERTON, Calif. - Recent Menlo College graduate Angela Woerz was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete - the NAIA phrasing for its Academic All-Americans - when the list of 2010 softball honorees was announced on Tuesday.
Woerz, who highlighted the Oaks defense from center field the past two seasons, earned the distinction as an upperclassman who maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. The two-year Menlo student-athlete, Woerz was a Second Team All-California Pacific Conference selection as a senior and an Honorable Mention All-Cal Pac pick as a junior.
Over two seasons of covering the middle of the outfield for the Oaks, Woerz started all 74 games and was known to make even the most dazzling defensive play look common. In the 2010 season she tied for the team lead with 31 hits and batted .284. Woerz finished her Oaks career ranked 10th in doubles while totaling the seventh most at bats in a season as a junior. She posted a .968 fielding percentage and had four assists from the outfield.
Woerz graduated from Menlo earlier this month with a Business Management degree.
