ATHERTON, Calif. - Second-year Menlo College Head Coach Matt Daily was named Baseball Coach of the Year by the Association of Division III Independent Colleges and Universities (AD3I), it was announced Wednesday.

The recognition further legitimizes the success that Daily and his Northern California baseball program have realized on a national level since he took over prior to the 2009 season. In addition to Daily's individual recognition, eight of his players were recently named to the AD3I First or Second Team for their efforts during the Oaks record-setting 22-15 campaign. Menlo won five games against nationally-ranked Div. III programs in 2010.

Daily, originally from Los Gatos, Calif., is a 1998 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He was named to his current position at Menlo in 2008 after serving on the baseball coaching staff for three years at NCAA Div. I Santa Clara University.

"It is always an honor to be honored by professional peers, but I think the award is more a reflection of the tremendous support I receive from my coaching staff and our administration, as well as the commitment and hard work of the players within our program," Daily said.

"Our coaching staff is a special one, in that we have people that are noted and experienced teachers of the game. Collectively, they enjoy Menlo, and are driven by the potential to create something special. Our administration has been essential to the success of the program, and we are excited to be representatives of Menlo College. Finally, success comes from hard work and effort. At the end of the day, our players are both top students and athletes, and each enjoys the process of working hard in order to achieve success. I could not be more thrilled going forward."
