ATHERTON, Calif. - A night after letting a two-game lead slip away in a season-opening loss, Menlo College was swept aside in a close encounter with Oregon Tech for the second time in as many matches.
The Oaks fell 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 on Saturday afternoon inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion. On Friday night in Scotts Valley, Calif., Menlo lost to the Owls 20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-15, 15-10. Next Saturday the Oaks face Pacific Lutheran at 12 p.m. to begin the two day Whitman College Tournament in Walla Walla, Wash. As they look for their first win of the young season.
Junior transfer Jessica Atthowe shone brightest for Menlo during its open weekend of action. Atthowe finished with a game-high 35 assists on Friday before adding 28 on Saturday at home. She totaled 20 digs in the two matches.
Selina Bumb led the Oaks with nine kills in the season opener while Mia Ortiz, Stephenie Monderine, Briana Moreno, and Atthowe each finished with seven kills. Shelby Goldman led everyone with 35 digs while Ortiz added 23.
On Saturday, Goldman again led with 20 digs while Amanda Sutter contributed seven kills and 15 digs. Monderine had six kills with Ortiz and Mika Mendoza chipping in five apiece.
Sarah Svedin led Oregon Tech with 10 assists on Saturday while Megan Christensen and Kristen Walters each totaled five kills. On Friday, Svedin had 22 assists, Kayleigh Whelchel finished with 14, and Christensen tallied 17 kills. The Owls are 6-3 on the season.
