SEASIDE, Calif. - Menlo College faced the tough task of opening its season on the road against NCAA Div. II Cal State Monterey and came up short in an admirable 2-0 loss. The Oaks allowed a goal in the opening minute, but stayed in the match until the Otters ended all doubt with a second just past the hour mark.

Junior goalkeeper Natalie Schader totaled eight saves for Menlo, who played a defensive match against a strong Monterey Bay side. Marlina Massagli scored off a Korie Soares assist 26 seconds into the match. AJ Cibuslky doubled the Otters lead on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

Menlo, 0-1, returns to action next Thursday against another NCAA Div. II opponent in Academy of Art at Wunderlich Field. Monterey Bay is 1-0.
