SAN FRANCISCO - Menlo College held up well for nearly an hour facing one of its toughest challenges of the season, but San Francisco State's class and a quick turnaround for the Oaks proved to be too much in a 6-0 non-conference loss on the road on Labor Day.
Kickoff for Monday's match against the Gators was a short 47 hours after Menlo's start against Hope International, but it didn't show in the first half. The Oaks limited San Francisco State to just a 24th-minute goal by Sasha Chalak, while Ian Craig tested Gators goalkeeper Michael McNeill with Menlo's only shot on goal.
Menlo goalkeeper Daniel Schwartz was put the test in the second half, but there was only so much the junior could do. San Francisco State tallied five second half goals, scoring four in one seven minute, one second stretch to take a 5-0 advantage in the 64th-minute. Ryan Beaudry doubled the Gators halftime lead before goals in quick succession by Robert Garcia, Adam Nowak, and Chalak again turned the match into a rout. Antonio Ugarte scored the final goal in the 81st minute.
Schwartz finished with nine saves for Menlo, who is now 0-2-1 overall. The Oaks host Academy of Art (0-2-0) on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Wunderlich Field. San Francisco State is 1-0-0.
