ATHERTON, Calif. - Sophomore linebacker Marcus Alvin enjoyed a breakout game for Menlo College last Saturday and was rewarded for his effort when he was named NAIA Independent Player of the Week on Monday.

Though the Oaks lost 32-15 to NCAA Div. III power Willamette, Alvin helped Menlo shut the Bearcats offense down after halftime. Alvin totaled 12 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble, leading all players in those categories for the game.

Through eight games, Alvin is ninth on the team with 27 tackles while also accumulating 8.5 tackles for a loss. He did not have a sack until his big game at Willamette on Saturday night.

Menlo is 3-5 on the season and faces the daunting task of play at No. 12 Linfield (5-1) on Saturday.
