ATHERTON, CA
The Menlo College Oaks opened their 2011 season with a bang, trouncing Bethany College by a score of 16-2. From start to finish this contest had all the makings of an old fashion blow out as Menlo looked sharp in all phases of the game.

Offensively the Oaks were relentless on their way to pounding out 14 hits, eight of which were of the extra base variety, while scoring in every single inning. Most of the damage came off Bison starting pitcher Kris Bocle. Bocle, who was tagged with the loss, went just 2.2 innings and managed to give up eight earned runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out just one. The big blow came off the bat of first basemen Will Pierce. Pierce who went 2 for 3 with a walk, hit a monstrous homerun which has yet to land.

Not to be outdone by the offense, Menlo's pitching put together an equally impressive performance highlighted by starter Sean Sweeney. Sweeney in picking up his first win of the season, threw five shutout innings while surrendering just two hits, one walk, and struck out five.

The Oaks will look to build off their opening day success as they return to action this Friday February 4, opening up a three game series at Occidental College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30pm.
