VALLEJO, CA
The Oaks concluded their 2010-11 season at the Menlo/Maritime Invitational at Hidden Brooke Golf Course with a fourth place finish, which is where they ended up in the Cal Pac Conference final standings. The fourth place mark is their highest of the year and a lot of the credit has to go to freshman sensation
Patrick McNamara. Building off a stellar day of shooting in Menlo's last tournament at the Simpson Invitational, McNamara led the Oaks once again with scores of 80 and 79, netting him in the top 15 for the second straight tournament. Afterwards, Head Coach
Bill Imwalle was enthusiastic about his young golfer and his bright future within the program, claiming that, "Patrick should be able to carry the team for the next three years."
As far as Menlo's other golfers are concerned, junior Kamalu Kaina put together the second best score on the day with two rounds of 84, and freshman
Trevyn Reese shot rounds of 84 and 87 for the Oaks' third best score of the tournament. Junior's Javier Garcia and Cody Grimes rounded out the day with scores of 90 and 84, and 87 and 88, respectively.
Although the fourth place Cal Pac finish isn't exactly what the Oaks were gunning for, Imwalle is optimistic about his team's chances for next season. "Everyone returns next year and with one more year of experience and having a better idea of the golf courses we play, it should all bode well for us," commented Imwalle. "We need to get into the top three of the conference next season to qualify for the NAIA Regionals and if everyone plays to their potential, it's definitely within our grasp."
