Fresh off the bitter taste of defeat against Simpson in their Cal Pac opener last night, the Lady Oaks were looking to bounce back on the road for their first conference win of the season against William Jessup. The Warrior Dome in Rocklin, CA was pumping, but it was Menlo who stole the show, proving their resiliency with a three set sweep over Jessup.
"I felt we executed our game plan and defended them well," remarked Head Coach Daniel Rasay on Cal Pac win number one. "Bouncing back after last night was important so I'm happy we came out and played well."
The Lady Oaks controlled each of the three sets with convincing victories of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-18 respectively. Seniors Briana Moreno and Amanda Sutter showed their grit tonight with Moreno earning an impressive .714 successful attack percentage and Sutter leading the team with 11 kills. Fellow senior Emelina Garcia led all Menlo players with 17 digs while senior captain Jessica Atthowe had an Oaks high 15 assists.
The dominating performance also afforded Menlo the opportunity to empty their bench, much the chagrin of Rasay. "Most importantly tonight, the starters took care of business allowing us to get everyone that suited up a little time on the court," commented the second year head man.
With the win the Lady Oaks even up their conference record at 1-1 with their overall mark now sitting at 5-9. Menlo will try to make it two of three in the Cal Pac with a matchup against Pacific Union scheduled for this Thursday, September 29th back home at Haynes-Prim. The conference battle is set to get underway at 7:00pm.
