The 2011-12 Women's Basketball California Pacific Conference postseason awards were announced today, and the Lady Oaks cleaned house with a number of significant postseason accolades to add to their already storied campaign. In total Menlo had four players earn postseason awards, the most of any team in the conference. Three players, Erika Garcia, Lauren Adamek, and Jolise Limcaco were recognized as All-Conference first teamers, while freshman forward Laurel Donnenwirth earns a second team distinction. Limcaco also took home the Cal Pac's Freshman of the Year honor and Lady Oaks' head coach, Shannon Osborne, was the recipient of the Cal Pac Coach of the Year award.
"These honors really show how well balanced of a team we are," commented Menlo fourth year Head Coach Shannon Osborne on the list of incredible achievements. "We had four girls average double digits in conference, and I'm glad we were recognized for having a solid, well rounded team."
One of those four, senior Erika Garcia, who finished second on the team with 11.6 PPG during the regular season, makes it consecutive seasons as a Cal Pac first teamer. "Erika worked extremely hard this year," remarked Coach Osborne on one of her most dynamic threats. "She is a great leader on and off the court and we will definitely miss her next year."
Jolise Limcaco, who was awarded with the prestigious conference Freshman of the Year honor, led the Oaks with 11.7 PPG and 99 assists during the regular season. Limcaco also showed her impressive ability to come up in the clutch, as the native of Sacramento dropped 26, 20 in the second half, to propel Menlo over Holy Names on Saturday to claim their first regular season Cal Pac championship in the last five years.
"I'm excited for Jolise," claimed Coach Osborne. "She works extremely hard and is well deserving of this honor."
The final prominent postseason award went to Head Coach Shannon Osborne who takes home the Cal Pac Coach of the Year honor for the first time in her four year Menlo career. Osborne was quick to credit the rest of her team and Assistant Coach Jackie Codiga for helping her win the outstanding accolade. "It's a great honor and definitely a tribute to our team and Assistant Coach Jackie Codiga," said Osborne on the achievement. "She [Jackie] has been phenomenal and her work and dedication to the program have been immeasurable."
The Lady Oaks will make their California Pacific Conference playoff tournament debut this Friday, February 24 inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion. Menlo will take on the winner of William Jessup vs. Simpson with the game set to begin at 7:30pm.
