Men's Golf - Wed, Mar. 14, 2012

Redding, CA:

Menlo's golf team made its much anticipated return to the links this past weekend, participating in the 2012 Simpson Invite.  The conditions were dreary to say the least, as cold temperatures and gusty winds blanketed Golf Hills Golf Club in Redding, CA.  As a team the Oaks shot 675 for a fourth place finish in their first tournament of the spring season.

Contributing in his first competition of the year, junior David Moore dazzled in his Menlo debut.  The native of Bakersfield led the Oaks in both rounds of action, posting scores of 79 and 77.  Moore's 156 put him in 6th place among the entire field, with Simpson's Mitch Card setting the pace with a 146.

"For it being David's first showing and under the tough conditions, it was a good opening tournament, that's for sure," claimed Menlo Head Coach Bill Imwalle.  "I think he could be right up there with the best guys in the conference.  He should have a chance at winning the final two tournaments of the year."

Aside from Moore's outstanding two day stretch, sophomores Patrick McNamara and Trevyn Reese put together identical marks of 165, much to the delight of the aforementioned Coach Imwalle.  "I was very pleased with Patrick and Trevyn's performances," remarked the Oaks Head Coach.

Menlo will have two tournaments remaining in their 2011-12 campaign.  The California Pacific Conference Championships hosted by William Jessup will take place from April 1st-2nd, and the NAIA Regional Tournament is on the books for May 6th-8th.
