The NAIA and National Wrestling Coaches Association announced their All-Academic Team today, and Menlo's Angel Garcia, Nicholas Gill, and Christian Franks all found themselves on the impressive list.  The academic based honor goes to the pair of juniors and freshman for outstanding scholarship and truly embodying the "student" part of student-athlete.

Garcia is a month removed from national glory after earning a 7th place finish in the 133lb. weight class at the NAIA National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.  The 7th place mark gave the Diamond Bar native an All-American title, the only Oak to take home such an honor.

Gill, a native of Sacramento enjoyed a stellar first season in Menlo blue, one that included pins in duals against McKendree University and Pacific University.

As far as Franks is concerned, the freshman from Escalon had a strong 2011-12 campaign in his first year with the Oaks.  Franks was a Nationals qualifier and a 4th place finisher at the 2011 San Francisco Junior College Tournament.

"It's quite an honor for Angel, Nick, and Christian," said Head Coach Joey Martinez on the remarkable academic achievement.  "It's one thing to excel on the mat, but to perform in the classroom as well can be a difficult challenge.  I am proud of their ability to succeed in both endeavors."
