Redding, CA:

The Lady Oaks remain winless in conference, after a tough 7-0 loss on the road at Simpson University in the first of a three-game set.  Menlo managed just three hits in the Cal Pac clash as the squad's conference record drops to 0-6 with an overall mark of 8-24.

The Red Hawks captured early momentum after an Oaks rallied stalled in the tilt's opening frame.   Back-to-back singles by Menlo's Nicole Larson and Emmeline Wang gave the Lady Oaks a chance at breaking through first off Simpson starting pitcher Hayley Rodriguez.  With two on and one out, Rodriguez found a way to get out of the tight jam by striking out Stephanie Gilbert and inducing Jessica Soliai on a pop up to end the inning.

The Red Hawks capitalized on Rodriguez's effort in the bottom half of the inning, posting a three-spot in the 1st.  Simpson kicked things off with a leadoff triple by Morgan Davis, which was followed by an Aleisha Brown walk.  Brown promptly swiped second to put runners on second and third with no one out and the dangerous Brooke Quaife coming to the dish.

Quaife would give Simpson the early advantage with a run scoring single to left and then an RBI groundout off the bat of Chelsea Dunn extended the Red Hawk advantage to 2-0.  Later in the inning Corinee Alexander scored on a pass ball to cap off the 1st inning scoring.

Simpson's first inning damage came off Menlo starting pitcher Jessica Cobb who was tagged with the loss after lasting just the one frame.  On the opposite side of the equation, Rodriguez earned the win with five shutout innings of work.

The Red Hawks extended their lead to 7-0 with two in the 3rd and two more in the 6th

With the defeat, Menlo's loss streak has now reached nine.  The Lady Oaks will look to bounce back against Simpson with a doubleheader to conclude the series on Tuesday, April 10th.  Game one is set to begin at 12:00pm.
