The Menlo Men's Soccer Team is proud to announce their newest signing, Tigard, Oregon native Drew Nyberg to their 2012 roster. The center defensive midfielder will enter his Oaks tenure as a freshman, after enjoying a storied high school career at Tigard High School.
A two-year varsity team captain, Nyberg led THS in goals last year in earning an All-League selection in the 6A Pacific Conference. Not only has he proven to be a force on the pitch, but his academic prowess off it is just as remarkable. Nyberg was a scholar athlete in all of his four years at Tigard High School.
"Drew not only brings size and strength, but he has the discipline to play within his abilities and the IQ to know what those abilities are," commented Tracy Hasson, Nyberg's Head Coach at Tigard High School. "He anticipates the game as a holding central player better than anyone I have coached and has the ability to score goals outside the 18, as well as on set pieces. I have no doubt that Drew will have the mental toughness to adjust to the increase in game speed that the college game will bring."
Nyberg will join the Oaks fresh off the school's most successful season in the program's history. Menlo ran the table to an undefeated California Pacific Conference season, culminating in a Cal Pac title and trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
"I am so pumped for the opportunity to continue my soccer career at Menlo," remarked Nyberg on joining the Oaks. "Having the opportunity to play through college has been a goal from my earliest memories, and playing for my first choice Menlo has me fired up beyond description."
