Menlo's Ululani Reyes and Amanda Vegas were recognized nationally as 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar Athletes. The academic based award goes to the junior Reyes and the senior captain Vegas for their exceptional work off the field and in the classroom.
The outstanding honor should come as little surprise after the dynamic duo took home Menlo College's two highest Liberal Arts awards at the 2012 Honors Convocation Ceremony. Reyes earned the Don Jordan Scholarship, given to the student who displayed the highest academic and leadership potential in the Humanities and Liberal Arts, while Vegas was honored with the Liberal Arts Award, handed to the student who displays outstanding scholarship, leadership, and character in the department.
Reyes, the native of Kaneohe, Hawaii, adds to her stellar postseason trophy case after recently being named to the All-California Pacific Conference 1st Team. The junior shortstop led the team with a staggering .469 on-base percentage and ended the 2012 campaign with a solid .290 batting average with nine extra base hits from the leadoff spot in the order.
For Vegas, the Kailua, Hawaii native, wrapped up her Lady Oaks career with a senior season batting clip of .216 with one home run and six RBI's. Vegas spent four years with the program, earning captain status for the 2012 season.
