The Menlo College Women's Basketball Team is proud to announce the signing of Sonoma native Aaliyah Sowards, who will join the Lady Oaks for the 2013-14 season.  The 5'5" guard is currently in her senior year at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa, and is coming off a stellar junior campaign that saw her do it all for the Pumas.

Last season Sowards averaged 9.6 points per game, 8.2 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and an impressive 6.0 steals per contest, helping propel herself to a whole host of individual honors in the process.  Sowards was recognized on the All-North Bay League 1st Team, the 2012 Press Democrat All-Empire 2nd Team (All-County honor), and the DownUnder Sports All-State 2nd Team.

"We are very excited to have Aaliyah join our Menlo women's basketball family!" said Lady Oaks Head Coach Shannon Osborne on her newest addition.  "She is an extremely versatile guard that can do it all.  She is a great defender, she can score, she sees the floor extremely well, and she is a great leader."

"I'm ecstatic," Sowards said on the prospects of joining the Oaks.  "There's something about Menlo that gives me a great feeling.  I'm proud, and looking forward to being a part of the Oaks community."
