Redding, CA:
The Oaks erased a 1-0 halftime deficit in battling back for a hard fought 2-1 road victory at the hands of Simpson University (3-8-2). Two second half Andrew Cota goals proved to be the difference, as the junior from Santa Clara ripped the back of the net in the 56th minute to knot the affair, before punching Menlo (8-2-3) on top with an 84th minute score. The win makes it four straight and six of the last seven for the Oaks as they remain undefeated in conference, now at 4-0.
Cota's two net finders push his team leading total to 15 on the year, including an impressive seven in Menlo's four Cal Pac clashes. The equalizing score came off a corner with just a shade over ten minutes into the second stanza, while the winning goal came off a Bryce Nelson assist with just under seven minutes left.
The Red Hawks jumped on the board first with a Cody Garrison score off a set piece from Angel Garcia. The initial goal would prove to be only one of just four Simpson shots, only two of which were on net.
Oaks senior keeper Alex Palomarez was forced to make just one save in the match, while the Red Hawks Justin Webb was kept busy with eights stops and two goals surrendered. Menlo racked up 19 total shots, including 11 on goal.
The Oaks will look to keep their unbeaten conference run alive, traveling to Pacific Union on Sunday, October 21st. Menlo took out the Pioneers 8-0 at Wunderlich Field back on October 3rd. Kickoff is slated for 3:00pm.
