Angwin, CA:
Menlo ripped 27 total shots, tallied five unanswered goals, and erased an early 1-0 deficit to take out Pacific Union College (0-10) on the road for the Oaks fifth Cal Pac win of the year to remain undefeated in conference play. Winners of seven of the last eight, Menlo now boasts an impressive 9-2-3 overall record.
The Oaks responded quickly after the Pioneers leapt on the board first. A score from senior Wagih Goda in the 8th minute put Menlo in an early hole, but the PUC lead would prove to be short lived.
A barrage of four first half Oaks goals reversed the initial script of a 1-0 Menlo deficit. Junior Andrew Cota led the offensive onslaught with two goals (12th and 27th minutes) to extend his team lead to a staggering 17 on the year. Senior Hugo Conchas was sandwiched right in the middle of the two Cota scores, for his fifth goal of the year, a rocket in the 25th minute of play. Fellow senior Alex Vukic capped off the first half scoring with a 43rd minute goal, his fourth of the season.
The Oaks took their 4-1 lead into intermission, before tacking on a fifth goal in the 81st minute. Sophomore Ricardo Urruela knocked home his second goal of the year, getting the feed from freshman Diego Navas who was credited with the assist.
Menlo's stifling defense held Pacific Union to just five total shots as Oaks senior keeper Alex Palomarez was forced to make just three saves. Pioneers goalkeeper Mina Michael allowed five goals, while making ten halts.
Menlo will take a break in their conference slate this Wednesday, October 24th, as the Oaks will travel to NCAA Division II Sonoma State. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
