Atherton, Calif. – For the first time in program history, Menlo Competitive Cheer partook in a STUNT doubleheader on Sunday morning against NCAA Div. I Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The Lady Oaks posted a strong showing in the inaugural contest, but fell in both games, 17-29 and 17-30.

Menlo won the first round of the first quarter in game one but Cal Polly earned three-straight wins to take a 7-4 lead into the second quarter. Menlo came roaring back in the second quarter which focuses primarily on pyramids and tosses. After losing the first two rounds to fall behind 11-5, the Lady Oaks rallied for a pair of wins to send it into halftime with the score 13-9.

In the third quarter featuring group jumps and tumbling, the experience Mustang squad dominated to the tune of a quarter sweep and took a commanding 21-13 advantage. In the fourth and final quarter, focusing on team routines, Cal Poly won both rounds to win by a final of 29-17.

In game two, Menlo and the Mustangs tied the first round of the partner stunts quarter but Cal Poly won the next three rounds to take an 8-4 lead into the second stanza. The Mustangs won three out of the four rounds in the second quarter then won all three in the third and held a 22-11 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter of the game.

The first round of quarter four was ruled a tie but Cal Poly won the second quarter and secured its second win of the day, this time 30-17.

Menlo hits the road to take part in next Sunday's NAIA Stunt National Tournament in Oklahoma.
