San Francisco – Menlo College Men's Wrestling sent a small contingent of Oaks to the 40th annual California Collegiate Open, hosted by San Francisco State University on Saturday. None of Menlo's top-16 ranked wrestlers competed after having just recently taken on Southern Oregon in a dual, but a number of Oaks had solid showings in the event none the less. In total 14 wrestlers competed in the highly competitive field that included Stanford, SF State, Cal State Bakersfield and many more.

Elias Hernandez chipped in arguably the best performance of the day for the Oaks, finishing 3-2 overall and just missing a place on the podium. He began his day by pinning Karrell Estell in the first round but then fell in the second round to Noah Blakely-Beanes 13-3. Hernandez then picked up a 2-1 decision win over Matt Peterson of Southern Oregon and a 13-6 decision over Barragan before eventually falling in the consolation semifinals to Vincente Hernandez of Simpson.

Isaac Rangel and Alex Conti were the two other Oaks with multi-win efforts on the day. Rangel, wrestling at 174 pounds, pinned Justin Pichedwatana in his first match then won a 5-3 decision over Bryce Buckley in his second match of the day. Rangel then dropped to the consolation semis where he lost a 9-6 decision to Pichedwatana to end his day. Alex Contni lost his first match of the day then picked up two wins before having to pull out via injury.

Menlo has two more duals to conclude the regular season. They host Simpson this Friday for senior night then compete against SF State on Feb. 9 before gearing up for the NAIA West Regional on Feb. 18.
