SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The first tournament hosted by Menlo College in the 2017 Men's Golf season is officially underway, and it was quite the successful day for the Oaks in day one of the Menlo College Ocean Duel. Out of the three teams that have full squads entered into the tournament, Menlo College currently has the second best team score through the first round of play. Occidental College currently owns the top score, just six strokes better than Menlo after the opening day of play.
Colin Casey is the top performer thus far for the Oaks, shooting a solid round of 75 to open play. His score marks the second-best overall round posted in the tournament, with one member of the Occidental squad shooting a 74 in the first round. Douglas Burton finished second amongst Menlo scorers with a round of 77, continuing to improve in the second tournament of the spring schedule. Gavin Bean made the leap to the third spot on the Menlo list following day one with an opening round of 80. Jayrick Joseph Cadelina-Canyete and Jared Finney round out the Menlo roster with scores of 82 and 84, respectively.
Occidental College leads the pack early on with a team score of 306, while Menlo slots in second at 314. California Maritime Academy is the third team in the tournament and their first round combined score is 366. Four individuals are also entered into the tournament but not included in team score, with the best overall round of those four shot being an 82. The Menlo College Ocean Duel wraps up on Tuesday at Presidio Golf Club in San Francisco.
